Task Force Events Director Michael Bath sent the following message to all of the volunteers who serve on the Miami Recognition Dinner and Winter Party Festival committees: On June 14th, 2012 we held a reception at the Bacardi Headquarters where we presented our annual donation representing the majority of the proceeds from our two Miami events to The Miami Foundation’s GLBT Community Projects Fund. The check was for $211,291 – our largest check to date! With this check, we have now donated $1.4 million to The Miami Foundation for re-granting to local organizations that support the LGBT community.
I’d like to thank those of you who attended. For those who couldn’t join us, you missed a wonderful and inspiring evening during which much appreciation was expressed for all that YOU do to make this community stronger. Charisse Grant, Senior Vice President for Programs, accepted the check on behalf of The Foundation. She spoke eloquently about the positive impact these events have on the local community, specifically mentioning the grant recipients represented in the room and describing the impressive work they are doing that is funded by the efforts of the Task Force’s South Florida volunteers. She actually brought tears to many eyes. I know when the stress is high we sometimes toss around the term “thankless job”. I wish you could have all been there to know how far from the truth that is.
I want to thank Winter Party Vice Chair Victor Diaz-Herman for stepping into the part usually played by Jerry Chasen (who is out of town right now) and emceeing the event, and Task Force Board Member David Price for presenting the check on behalf of our organization. But I especially want to thank every single one of you for every sponsor you gained, every walk-through you performed, every box you moved or call you made -- basically everything you did, no matter how big or how small -- to strengthen the Task Force and our local community.
Now… let’s do it all again!
